Helix Collective are classical musicians busting out of the traditional mold. From crossover dance music, to storytelling, to film, television, and video game music, the Los Angeles-based ensemble takes the best of classical chamber music and makes it the life of the party.
Join us for this day all about the power of great music packed into a small ensemble! Helix Collective premieres 8 original works from our call-for-scores with the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers.
The day begins with a discussion with composer Nathan Barr and ASMAC host Charles Fernandez on the power of small ensembles. Learn how Nathan gets the most color, variety, and bang from a chamber group and how he uses his home base at Bandrika Studios to record this music for film and television.
The music will span a wide variety of styles of music from jazz, film music, neo-romantic, and genre-bending new works. Featured ASMAC member composers from Los Angeles, Italy and the UK include Lorenzo Barcella, Szu-Han Chen, Patrick Gutman, Jessica Jarvis, Annette Johnson, Eva Mazurek, Amélie Rolland, and Edmund J. Song.
