Helix Collective is a Los Angeles-based ensemble that specializes in multi-media, collaborative performance and recording. Helix has released two critically acclaimed albums and has recorded the scores for over a dozen films. The ensemble is at home in nightclubs and on the concert stage from a residency at Los Angeles’s venerable Silverlake Lounge to performances for the West Michigan and Pacific Symphonies. Helix “has a little something for everyone: those who like their classics straight up, with a contemporary edge to it, or with populist appeal” (Audiophile Audition Magazine). Called “dizzyingly virtuosic with exquisite musicianship and world-class range” by The Free Times and praised for their “beyond-the-ordinary programming.” The flexible ensemble has a core instrumentation of flute, oboe, piano and percussion, and expands to a small chamber orchestra.

Helix Collective is the resident ensemble of the Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival and recently performed at the Women Composers in Media event in Los Angeles. Upcoming performances this season include Classical Revolution: L.A., Beverly Hills Music in the Mansion, and Encinitas Music by the Sea.

CLUB CLASSICAL

THE COCKTAIL STORIES

Hollywood screenwriters share stories about their favorite cocktails in this dramatic musical show. The tales are set to music by Helix Collective and the audience chooses which “drink” to hear next. During the show, a Jack and Coke can lead you to a yachting trip with a jazz trio in tow. An Irish coffee becomes a whirlwind of Irish and Columbian music and toasts. After everyone has had a few beers, a drinking song is bound to break out in the crowd. Share an intimate evening of drinks, music, and great stories!

WORLD DANCE CLUB

Helix hosts the world’s first classical dance club with their World Dance Club program. The group performs dance music from all over the world while providing quickie dance lessons throughout the show. Before the night is out, people who have never danced before will be up and dancing to Bollywood, Bluegrass, Salsa and Klezmer! It’s a lightning-speed trip around the world, so wear your dancing shoes and get ready to party!

L.A. STORIES

L.A. Stories brings together poets, writers, composers, and musicians to celebrate the beauty and diversity of Los Angeles. This music and storytelling show creates vignettes within the city about surviving and thriving in L.A. Droughts. Movie Stars. Love. Arriving from a distant land. We all share this city but it looks different from every vantage point.

Helix Collective has recorded over thirty films and media projects with their flexible instrumentation ensemble, and their musicians can be heard on hundreds more.  Ranging from a chamber orchestra to just a few musicians, Helix Collective is comprised of busy recording professionals. With close relationships with several studios and excellent recording engineers, and remote recording options, Helix can help bring your musical vision to life. Helix Collective also specializes in live score-to-screen concerts, is the resident ensemble of the Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival, and performed for the Women Composers in Media concert.
